"There's no place like home." Dorothy's famous words resonate with all of us because home is a sanctuary. Yet, allowing clutter to control your home can rob you of peace making you feel as if you, too, are no longer in Kansas (if Kansas is home, that is).

Organizing enables you take back control of your space so that you can once again enjoy looking forward to coming home. However, for many people this is easier said than done.

An untidy home can affect our attitude for the worse, but applying the following suggestions can turn your home into a place to recharge your batteries, rather than drain them.

Recycling - After learning your community's recycling guidelines, set up a sorting center in your home. The garage is an ideal location to place appropriately sized receptacles for your recycling needs. Place them all in one area. The key is to make the job easy for everyone.

Mail - Many people overlook this one area that actually makes a huge impact on what we view as tidiness. Incorporate a system for incoming mail. Decide where each piece should go; the garbage, your "take action" box, or a file. Bills would require action, but most "junk" mail can be tossed (or recycled). You may also want to set up a system for paying bills. For example, writing due date s and method of payment for bills on a master calendar enables you to see ahead of time bills that need to be addressed.

You - Let's face it we can be our own worst enemies when it comes to clutter. The problem is rarely a shortage of space. We simply have too much stuff. Therefore, we have to avoid buying on impulse and should only get things that we really need.

The idea is to become efficient with our belongings and make do with what we have. This is, in fact, a good thing, because we can either have clutter, or we can have peace of mind.
